Joyce Fisher Obituary

Never one to wait in long lines, Joyce Fisher (Ma) used her MagicBand to open the gates to Heaven and was welcomed into eternal magic on February 4, 2026.

Joyce worked along side her sister and mother at Kinston Shirt Factory for many years until it's closing. She then found the opportunity to follow her passion of caring for others by working as a Developmental Technician at Caswell where she retired from after almost 18 years of service.  Joyce also worked as caretaker and housekeeper for many years even after her retirement.

If Joyce wasn't working or caring for others you could find her playing games on her tablet, working in her yard, laying in a float in her cherished pool, or spending time with her precious dogs Rip and Lily.

Joyce was a big lover of traveling especially to Disney World with her family. Her first trip to Disney with her family in 2008 sparked her love of all things Disney.  This first trip to Disney led to more magical times. Some of the most cherished Disney memories were made on the 2014 trip with the infamous 13.

Ma's world was centered around her family.  She loved holidays, family game nights, and the epic boat rides on the river.  The laughs she shared with her big family will forever be engraved in our hearts.  The Fisher kids went to the bottom of the barrel when the Grandkids started arriving.  Each time one was born they were automatically Ma's favorite and once the Great Grandkids came, everyone else was a forgotten memory.  There will never be another Ma like she was.

Ma's cancer journey showed us again and again the warrior spirit that she had all her life.  She showed so much strength and never lost her humor and spitfire personality.  We could not be more proud of her fight against this horrible disease and in the end her body gave out but not her spirit.  We take comfort that she is no longer in pain and that she is reunited with our Dad.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ken “Yankee” Fisher; parents, Ervin and Cora Hill; son-in-law, Joe Mike Baker; nephew, Jay Hill.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughters, Jessica Baker (Deanna), Jenny Gray (Donnie); son, Ken Fisher; grandchildren, Ginger Stillwell, Kelsey Turner (Jake), Seth Baker, Korey Gray, Hayden Fisher; great grandchildren, Ida Paisley Mullinax, Isabelle “Izzy” Moynihan, Conway Turner; sister, Gladys Skinner (Johnny); brother, Buddy Hill (Beverly).

Memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 8, 2026 at Garner Funeral Home with Doug Baker officiating. Visitation will be held following the service.

Ma would want to be remembered not with sadness but with action-so in her memory, keep working to Make America Great Again!
